McDaniel pottery blends rustic materials with contemporary design. It features an iron-rich clay body that gives each work a rustic flair. This rich, espresso brown clay tends to bleed through the layers of colorful underglaze, providing texture and depth to the designs. After the underglaze is applied, and the pot is in the “bone dry” stag, sgrafitto techniques are used to etch patterns to the surface. The approach to decorating these pots produces a clean and modern design. Combining multiple techniques allows for the creation of visual, as well as textural contrast, ultimately infusing these pots with a sense of playfulness.
